Steel Shop Supervisor

Location: Tomball, TX

Pay: $30–$40/hour (based on skills & experience)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (1-hour lunch at noon)

Overtime: Minimal (estimated 40–80 hours per year)

Position Overview

We’re a small, hands-on steel fabrication shop (3–4 people) looking for a working Steel Shop Supervisor. This role is equal parts leadership and fabrication. You’ll lead the shop, keep jobs moving, and jump in to weld or fit when needed to meet deadlines or cover for time off.

This is not a desk-only role — if you enjoy being on the floor, working with your hands, and leading by example, this is a great fit.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a small fabrication team (3–4 employees)
  • Perform hands-on welding and fabrication as needed
  • Ensure jobs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule
  • Read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings
  • Fit steel accurately (pipe fitter–level fitting, measuring, layout, alignment)
  • Use MIG, Flux-Core, Stick, and TIG welding processes
  • Operate cutting torch and general shop tools
  • Maintain shop inventory and order supplies
  • Use basic computer systems and mobile apps (inventory, maintenance app, etc.)
  • Assist with shop organization, workflow, and quality control
  • Train and support team members as needed

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong leadership skills with hands-on shop experience
  • Solid welding ability (MIG, Flux, Stick, TIG)
  • Ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings
  • Good fitting skills (accurate measuring, layout, steel alignment)
  • Comfortable using a tape measure and shop math
  • Computer literate (inventory tracking, ordering supplies, mobile apps)
  • Able to safely use a cutting torch
  • General metalworking experience (lathes, drills, presses)

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience with water jet or plasma table (training available)
  • Machining experience

Benefits

  • Paid holidays
  • 401(k) with 4% company match after one year
  • Paid vacation (negotiable at supervisor level)
  • Health insurance with dental and vision

What We’re Really Looking For

The most important skill is leadership — someone who can guide a small team and keep the shop running smoothly. Just as important is the ability to weld when needed to help the team hit deadlines or cover absences.

If you’re a strong welder who enjoys leading from the floor and working in a small, tight-knit shop, we’d like to talk.
