Director of Business Development

Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Director of Business Development to lead strategic growth initiatives across the natural gas and renewable natural gas (RNG) pipeline sectors. This individual will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for pipeline project development, engineering, operations, regulatory compliance, and pipeline ownership solutions throughout the United States.
The ideal candidate will possess strong industry relationships, technical understanding of pipeline infrastructure, and the ability to communicate the value of our client’s turnkey capabilities to industrial end-users, RNG developers, utilities, power generation facilities, midstream operators, and pipeline owners. This position plays a critical role in expanding our client’s presence as a trusted partner for the development, operation, financing, and regulatory management of PHMSA-regulated natural gas pipeline systems.

The company provides turnkey services for gathering, transmission, distribution, and RNG pipeline systems, including project development, design, permitting, operations and maintenance, regulatory compliance, and financing solutions. They also serves as a qualified DOT operator of record for pipeline owners nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to grow revenue and market share within the natural gas and RNG industries.
- Identify and pursue opportunities with:
- RNG developers
- Industrial gas users
- Power generation facilities
- Midstream companies
- Utilities and municipalities
- Pipeline owners requiring outsourced operations and compliance services
- Promote Douglas Pipeline’s turnkey capabilities, including:
- Pipeline project development
- Engineering and design
- Right-of-way acquisition
- Environmental permitting
- Operations and maintenance
- PHMSA compliance services
- Operator-of-record services
- Pipeline financing and ownership structures
- Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, engineering firms, developers, utilities, and industry partners.
- Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, and client presentations.
- Coordinate with internal engineering, operations, compliance, and project management teams to develop customer solutions.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade associations, and networking events.
- Track market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging opportunities within the natural gas and renewable energy sectors.
- Maintain CRM activity, sales forecasting, and pipeline reporting for executive leadership.
- Assist in identifying strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and long-term growth initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or related field preferred.
- 7+ years of business development, sales, or commercial leadership experience within:
- Natural gas pipelines
- Midstream energy
- RNG/biogas
- Utility infrastructure
- Industrial energy services
- Strong understanding of pipeline project lifecycle, PHMSA regulations, and energy infrastructure markets.
- Demonstrated success in developing and closing complex infrastructure or energy service agreements.
- Existing industry relationships within pipeline, utility, RNG, or industrial sectors preferred.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel as needed throughout the United States.
- Self-motivated with strong strategic and analytical abilities.
Preferred Experience
Experience selling or managing services related to:
- Pipeline operations and maintenance
- DOT/PHMSA regulatory compliance
- Pipeline engineering and construction
- RNG interconnects and gas transportation systems
- Build-own-operate pipeline models
- Industrial bypass or direct-connect pipeline systems
